Puhi Peaks Hunting

Unforgettable guided and unguided hunts across New Zealand’s highest private alpine station.

Hunting at Puhi Peaks

Experience one of New Zealand’s most sought-after hunting adventures at Puhi Peaks Station — the country’s highest privately owned property, rising from 400 to 2,600 metres. We continue to delight our guests who are both surprised and stunned by the beauty of the property and the extensive and varied experiences provided by a hunt here.

A hunt on Puhi Peaks can if you wish, challenge even the fittest and most experienced hunters but also caters for those who are new to hunting or who want a less challenging physical experience.

But hunting here is more than just the thrill. Set against the dramatic Kaikōura backdrop, it plays a vital role in our conservation efforts. By helping manage introduced species like deer, goats, pigs, and rabbits, you’ll contribute directly to protecting New Zealand’s fragile native ecosystems.

Join our expert guides for an ethical, unforgettable hunting experience that supports biodiversity, sustainability, and your sense of adventure. Whether you’re here for meat animals or wild game, you’ll leave with lasting memories — and a deeper connection to this extraordinary land.

Why We Hunt

Protecting Native Flora and Fauna

Most of New Zealand’s land mammals were introduced by humans — and without natural predators, their numbers can spiral. Hunting helps us restore balance.

  • Goats: Cause erosion and damage to native plants and fences. Great training for beginner hunters.
  • Deer: Strip forests and prevent regeneration. Managing them protects biodiversity.
  • Pigs: Root up bush, harm endangered birds, and spread disease.
  • Rabbits & Hares: Compete with stock and damage native habitats.

Every hunt supports sustainable land management, and every animal harvested is used respectfully.
